Fahima was a mistake, and she had picked up on it at a young age. It wasn't that her family did not love her, but they valued their money much more. She spent many a days alone on the porch watching the customers of their business walk in and out. Some brought wonderful things that she would stare at in awe, but  left with a purse full of coins jingling at their side instead. Others would enter with their money and exit with the last customer's possession... Why would someone want to get rid of such fascinating contraptions, only for someone else to take it? Her questions were soon answered though as she learned the "value" of coins.

Fahima's parents had met in a small sector of Seron’Shai ruled by money. Her mother ran a small pawn shop, and knew a lot when it came to making bargains. Her father, at the time, was a nobody. So you could imagine her surprise when he came close to outwitting her in making a jaw dropping amount of cash, in a deal with a wealthy noble. She was beyond impressed with him and the two of them soon married and became the owners of, the new and improved, Hare Wares Pawn Shop.

When she got a little older, Fahima would take herself to the park to try and make some friends. She would show them her little pouch containing some gold coins she'd stolen from her parents and ask "Will you play dollies with me if I give you this coin? It's worth a lot you know." Of course, coming from a tribe where business was highly valued, the children would take the money and play with her happily for an hour or so, but when she came back the following day... They simply asked her if she had brought the coins.

For a while she went on like that, paying the other children to play games with her. It was fun for a while, but when she ran out of coins, it soon became apparent that they did not want to play with her. She didn't understand. Why was she not happy this way? She was getting something in exchange for what she had paid them. All she had to do was go home and get more...But it all felt so hollow. Nobody would even talk to her for for more than a few minutes after realizing she was out of cash. What was she doing wrong?

Frustrated and defeated she let this way of life consume her. She was not greedy but understood that the only way society could function was around money. Feelings didn't matter, love didn't matter, hate didn't matter. So she became a stone. She did what needed to be done to get through the day and did the same the next, and the day after, and the day after that.

When she finally reached adulthood she fled from the city of  Seron’Shai and ran as hard, and fast, as her powerful limbs could take her. There had to be something more! Something beautiful, something warm, something worth dying for! She ran and ran and ran until she could run no more. The pads of her feet were cracked and bleeding, her mouth was dry and tongue like sand paper. She felt if she took one more breath her lungs would implode and this would be all she ever knew! Falling to her knees, she slumped over onto the damp earth, her ears pinned back against her head as she curled up her face in a lazy snarl, cursing the world as her eyes closed slowly and her consciousness evaded her.

----------------------------------------------------------

When she regained consciousness she couldn't feel anything. It was very dark and she began to believe she had died in that forest. One time she had heard that there were creatures who would sell body parts for money! Perhaps that was what had become of her physical body, and now she was just floating in limbo for some unknown sin... It was then she heard something, like the creaking of floorboards, and her eyes shot open. There, in the doorway, stood a blurred figure. In what little light beamed through the window, she squinted her eyes to get a better look, and from his shape she could tell he was a male, most likely a mustelid... From the hidden town of Oz’Ske!

"Am I... Am I in Oz'Ske?" She asked slowly, sitting up straight in the bed "Am I dead?"

An amused chuckle issued from the male as he reached over and lit a lantern. "You are indeed in Oz'Ske m'lady." He sat down on the end of the bed gently "But you are not dead. I carried you all the way here from the woods. You were in sad shape."

Fahima suddenly became aware of the pain in her feet and tore away the blankets. She knew it! They had chopped off her feet to be sold to the highest bidder!... But to her surprise they were all wrapped up in bandages. She stared at them a moment longer and slowly looked up to meet his gaze. "How much do I owe you for your kindness?" She asked.

He tilted his head and looked a little confused by her question. "Owe me? You owe me nothing. I simply could not sit idly by while a woman perished alone in the forest." He then got up and poured water into a wooden cup and handed it to her. "But if you wish to repay me you can start by staying here in Oz'Ske. It appeared to me as if you were running from something for quite a while."

Fahima took the cup and drained its contents in seconds before answering "I was... To be honest I think I've been running from it for years..." She looked across the room where a mirror stood on a dresser. Shakily she got to her feet, against the protest of the male, and limped over to it. Staring herself down she bored into her reflection and said firmly "I shall remain here." She shot a glance over her shoulder at him and added a little quieter "I wish to learn more about this unconditional kindness."
