Rai's Charizard's Death

Yeah so I've spent a long time on this XD I think it's one of the best pictures I've ever done. I'm going to post the story again for easy acces, if anyone wants to know what this is all about.

Story:

Rai grew up with his family in the lovely seas-side city of Cianwood. He was trained personally by his uncle, the gym leader, and soon became one of the best trainers in town. He was respected by most and was a good kid; always very polite and would be there in a heartbeat if someone needed help.

He left on his pokemon journey for a couple years before returning to visit his parents because of how hard it was to reach the City without a water pokemon or a flying type. As soon as Pidgeot was big enough to carry him he flew home…But what he saw there was terrible; A lot of the town’s inhabitants had moved away and there were many houses that were destroyed. He couldn’t find his parents anywhere, but his next best bet was the gym. When he got there his uncle was seated at his usual spot beneath the waterfall. When Rai asked him what happened, he instantly wished he hadn’t; His parents and a few other people in the city had been killed by a massive raid by a few, very strong, water pokemon who were some type of gang.

Soon after, there was word that Team Rocket was forming a group to set the wild pokemon straight if they could not cooperate. Blinded by hatred for the pokemon and sadness for his loss he enlisted without thinking it through. They tattooed his arm with the generic red R to mark him as one of theirs and in a couple weeks there was a whole army moving out to the depths of the ocean to face the threat. It was true that he had second thoughts, but there was no turning back now, and at least some work would keep his mind off what happened; he wasn’t coping well.

The boat pulled up onto a sand bar and the team readied themselves as quick as they could. No one talked to him much unless they were barking orders, and he quickly realized that he did not belong here. But before anyone could make another move the water pokemon attacked. All trainers were ordered to let out all their pokemon to heighten their numbers so the battle could be won quicker.

He knew then that he’d made a grave mistake; Team rocket was savagely battling the gang to weaken them to capture them. Rai had been so naive. He should have known better than to think Team rocket would simply give them a boot in the butt and send ‘em on their way. They wanted them because they were obviously unusually powerful.

The fighting went on for hours, it was then that Team rocket saw their chances of winning; very slim. At that point they decided not to hold back and to kill the pokemon because they were too much of a threat to them and it was obvious that they would not give in to capture. It was the worst scene Rai had ever seen. He screamed for it to stop but it was impossible for anyone to hear him over the roar of battle, and even if they could hear him, he knew they wouldn’t listen.

His pokemon were battling savagely as well but he knew they wouldn’t deliver killing blows and that they would be the ones to go down first. He had to return his Zubat, Raichu and pidgeot because they were exhausted and he made a final decision that he would have no more part in this slaughter. He returned Hitmonlee and Bayleef and was about to call back Charizard when it happened. His Charizard. One of the most loyal pokemon he’d ever known, his best friend, his oldest friend, was caught in a bind by a Tentacruel and was being dragged along the sand bar towards the water. Rai had no time to think. He ran at the pokemon and grabbed hold of the Tentacruel, trying to wrench his arms away from Charizard. It’s winges were pined and his mouth was clamped shut. He held on until they were fairly deep under water. He was losing air and knew he couldn’t do this for much longer. He looked into his charizard’s eyes as his own began to fill with tears and his Charizard silently willed him to let go, that it was alright. Rai shook his head fiercely, but even he knew he couldn’t hold his breath forever. Reluctantly he let go, and his Charizard smiled lovingly at him, closed his eyes peacefully, and turned away.

Rai was overcome with emotion and he fought his way blindly to the surface, just breaking through the watery film, just before he though his lungs would explode. He crawled onto the sandbar, dragging his limbs slowly, until he couldn’t move anymore. Pidgeot burst from his pokeball and scooped Rai up, despite its own exhaustion, and he flew away from the sandbar, which was now being engulfed by the tide.
